OUR HISTORY

On March 1960, the company S.I.T.T.A.M. was established at the Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano. Amongst the founders, Mr. Albano Zanella and Mr. Siegfried Kompatscher played a key role, for several years, in the running and development of the company.

The company activities were initially focussed both on Railway freight, for export and import from and to Austria, Germany and on customs clearance at the Customs houses of Brennero, Vipiteno and Bolzano.

In 1964, we opened our branch in Milan, which soon after became the leader of groupage services in the German-speaking market. We were amongst the first to begin a regular truck service on the major European routes. At the beginning of the 70's, we added to our sector some activities of the Italestero and other small companies. We expanded into European market, establishing a network of relationships with exclusive agents all over Europe. The whole process coincided with the transfer of the headquarter offices from Bolzano to Milan, and of the warehousing services to the terminal of Via Stephenson (Milan).

A regular intermodal railways groupage service began in 1978, following the acquisition of twenty intermodal units of 12.20 metres. This was one of the first service within this sector and it was further developed in the years that followed by increasing its own fleet of vehicles and the volume of traffic. We believed that despite the problems still facing this industry today, this service could not be excluded from the future of the trasportation sector in Europe.

In the 80's consolidation of the company on Italian territory began, with the opening of branches, commercial offices and the acquisition of the Regulated C. & C. in Bologna and the Avioservizi company in Florence. The result was a continuous and constant growth in the volume of jobs and turnover.

In the mid 80's the Department of Sea and Air Freight was opened. This section rapidly developed and gained importance at the beginning of 90's, thanks to our devoted and professional team.

On 30th October 1995, we were the first company to be awarded with the Certificate of Quality System ISO EN 9002, for customers satisfaction and for the high standards achieved. In the first semester of 2003 the Certificate was validated in compliance with UNI EN ISO 9001 : 2000.

Although our company S.I.T.T.A.M. is today a recognised leader in the freight forwarding industry, we will not stop here. Our mission for the  future is reflected in our ambitious goals for growth, top quality services  and most of all, the utmost satisfaction of our customers.
